How to select the best paint color!
One of the most difficult decisions to make when updating your home is choosing the right paint color. Especially grey!
There are many different grey tones out there and what looks great on a swatch, may not look the same in your home. Why is this?! Well, many factors come into play when it comes to the paint on your walls.
The first thing to consider is the size of the space. Darker colors make smaller spaces feel even smaller. If you are leaning towards a darker shade, I recommend larger spaces only, unless a bright feature can be incorporated. Features can include natural light, accent wall paper, and wainscoting as seen in this bathroom image.
Lighting: Lighting in your home changes throughout the day. The more windows and natural light you have, the lighter the paint color will appear on the walls. If your home has minimal windows, pick the next lightest shade in the color deck from the one you originally selected. Here is an example of the same paint color used in two different spaces. The bathroom looks lighter and neutral vs the kitchen appears grey.
Two-tones and accent walls are a thing of the past! I believe this makes spaces feel choppy. I recommend using one color throughout the entire space unless you’re adding texture such as wallpaper, stone, or wood.
Shades of Grey! There are so many choices and it really comes down to preference. The cooler tones that have hints of blue and green don’t provide much warmth. I recommend a balance between beige and grey. This not only provides warmth within your home, but is also transitional. Painting your entire home, inside or out, is a large expense. Home décor rends will always change, but neutrals will never disappear. Choosing a warmer grey will make for smoother transitions in home décor trends. Take into consideration the colors of your flooring, cabinets, and window coverings too. Too much grey and white can make spaces look too sterile. Again, this is personal preference.
